The Mechanics of Undergarments, an indiscreet history of the silhouette, exhibition

From July 4th, 2013, The Museum of Decorative Arts invites you to discover the exhibition “The Mechanics of Undergarments, an indiscreet history of the silhouette”,  about corsetry and the architecture of clothing. The exhibition aims to explore the world of undergarments, both male and female. It shows how fashion has always involved remodeling of the silhouette. Those garments aimed to fulfill the requirements and achieve the ideal beauty of the time. The first hidden “architecture” garments date back from the 14th century and various exist today. You will discover the wasp waist tyranny with corsets and bustles. That time is fortunately long gone; nevertheless, it inspired a number of current creators, such as Jean Paul Gaultier or Thierry Mugler.
